One of our adventures was driving to downtown Salt Lake, parking the car and wandering around to explore the area. Above is the current county courthouse, which is across the street from the original courthouse built in the late 1800's.
Some of the architecture was intriguing.....something old....
...and something new.....I decided that there must be quite a lot of money in Salt Lake as there are many bank buildings to put it all in!
From this picture, you would think that Wells Fargo is WAY bigger than Chase....
...and two more banks -- definitely a staple of the skyline here.
From the freeway, you get a good skyline view....
My aunt Barbie called me while we were driving toward this building, which is a Utah Historical Site. I described the building to her as "the one with the big clock and a lot of pointy things"; she said "Oh, you're down by the old court house". The building is actually the Salt Lake City and County Building, which was built between 1891-94 of Kyune Sandstone. This served as the Utah State Capitol from 1896-1915.
Above shows how beautifully sculpted this building is. There is a park around it with fountains and flowers. I took a lot of pictures of the landscaping and will show those in my next post.
