Halloween Applique Project, Salt Lake City UT

Saturday was Halloween and after all the fun we had at the party, we were ready to settle down and do some sewing.

The project I taught was this three block applique quilt. Each block was done using different techniques: The bat and moon block was done in the hoop using the embroidery module; the ghost block was prepared using freezer paper and appliqued to the background with a blanket stitch and decorative thread; the pumpkin block taught "faced" applique and reverse applique.

Working in the hoop on the bat block....

Look, Ma -- no hands! As the last step to complete this block, we used the #43 Free Motion Couching Foot to stitch decorative yarn around the bat shape that had been reverse appliqued.

This project taught a number of techniques -- too bad I can only teach it once a year!
